To make life easier for children who are unable to go to the parks and socialize with peers, this fun arts and crafts project can be used by parents. Especially if it can be linked to educational recycling stories, even better. Depending on the age of the child, his or her share in the project, as well as usage of scissors, whether alone or not, should be decided by parent.
To make the necklace, you will need to find the leftovers of yarn that you already have at home, preferably cotton, and if you do not have it, for this project, you can use any old T-shirt that is ready for throwing away. Unique Necklace Made by Your Child and You
Cut the T-shirt into strips, then arrange the strips by color and form "beads". This is achieved by wrapping tape two or more times in a circle and eventually tying yarn to a knot. (See picture of finished necklace). Then string the already shaped "beads" on the ribbon which you had chosen for the necklace. The pattern of beading is determined according to the colors available and is on you to decide how to do it.
Then tie the finished necklace into a knot. All sizes depend on your preferences, the materials available and the style. I prefer larger "beads" and a necklace strung on a black ribbon as my colors turn out better. Also notice how I chose some light green yarn to create an accent that will make the necklace more cheerful.
If you used cotton yarn, like me, you can wash this necklace in the washing machine whenever you want.
As you make your necklace, you can tell your child about the benefits of recycling, so he or she can adopt this useful habit for the future.
Later on you can play with leftovers to create some funny shapes, or you can encourage your kid to create their own shapes. I found a kid in me, too:-)
